Conditions of prayer

Qur'an 2:43

Establish prayer and bow with those who bow.

The five daily obligatory prayers are Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. These are the daily farḍ prayers and should remain clearly separate from Witr and from the confirmed sunnah prayers around them.
Facing the qiblah means turning toward the Ka'bah in Makkah for prayer.
Intention is not presented here as a long technical formula. The key beginner lesson is to begin prayer consciously for Allah, at its proper time, and facing the qiblah.

Islamic Context

The five daily prayers

Prayer is one of the pillars on which Islam is built, so the five daily prayers should remain central in the Essentials structure.
